you will also see your factory installed North America NT map set.ġ7. in the next window, select your new map (South America OSM) in the drop down. select your device in the drop down menu (it's likely the only one there), and click "continue".ġ6. plug your garmin into your computer with the USB cable. now, stop celebrating and let's get the map that is now installed in basecamp copied over to your garmin device. go to top level menu/maps, and select your new map (South America OSM for me). keep family ID number the same, but if you download more OSM maps, increase the number by +1 each time to keep them all different in the bowels of your computer.) Click "modify" to complete renaming.ġ4. write your own name (i used South America OSM) in "name on computer", "name on device", and "folder name" (folder name should still have. select "OSM generic routable" in window, click "extra" in top menu, select "change map name and ID" in drop down.ġ3. control click on the application to open first time (mac security requires you to do this - will open normal subsequent launches).ġ2. this will also keep you from having complications from duplicate file names, as all files coming from will be called "OSM generic routable".ġ1. using javawa GMTK, rename to whatever you would like (in my case, South America OSM). now the new map will show in garmin map manager and is installed in basecamp as "OSM generic routable", the default file name.ġ0. make sure it's an old one though! or just don't do anything. while garmin map manager is open, you can delete any old map versions or duplicates that might be there. it will open garmin map install, say yes to install prompts.Ĩ. double-click on this file to run the install. once at the server, you will see many file types to choose from, download to your desktop osm_generic_macosx.zip (this is the map installer for base camp for mac users).ħ. if you make a custom map, will ask for you email and send you a download link for the large maps that you create.Ħ. (or enable "manual tile selection" to create your own regional/continental map - i made a map for all of southamerica)ĥ. go to and choose the country map you would like to download - and download right there. (possibly the same guy as the open street project? not sure.)Ĥ. go to download and install JaVaWa GMTK, JaVaWa device manager from this nice dutch guy. download and install the additional garmin programs: garmin map install & garmin map manager, garmin POI loader (more about POI loader in a subsequent post.)ģ. install latest zumo firmware and latest version of basecamp.Ģ. it shouldn't be this hard to do this, but it was.Īnd let's not forget to thank garmin for making it so freaking nearly impossible that it takes: 4 garmin applications, 2 open source applications, two pretty smart guys about 20 email exchanges and a 3-hour video chat, and one really freaking awesome dutch geek-god to make these open source maps and applications available so you can install them. thank you to jeff smith, who spent 3 hours with me on video conference this morning helping me figure all this out. it may be different with other garmin devices, as they are not all designed/programmed alike. In this post, i'm going to give a summary of what one needs to do in order to load 3rd party open source maps from into a garmin zumo 660. and the alternative to means loading maps by country, often on PC/windows only platforms that suck the life out of your soul. garmin's south american maps are useless by almost all accounts online. awesome, almost to the point of wondering how garmin is going to adjust their business model to adapt to the inevitability of this content being better than their own. so donate after you realize how awesome these maps are like i did. from what i can tell, it's a dutch programmer who is doing it for donations. The open source mapping from is excellent. and basecamp, garmin's apple/mac friendly desktop user-interface, is far from being plug n' play. Garmin customer tech support, not surprisingly, is not in the business of giving 110% when it comes to you loading 3rd party maps that cost $00.00 on their devices. Firstly, i will say that in the year of planning, research, and to-do lists for my south america trip - the task of learning and installing a good south american map set onto my garmin zumo 660 was the most frustrating, feared, procrastinated, and unpleasant of anything else i have done or attempted to do.

The major rail centres are Villingen-Schwenningen and Donaueschingen, which are also connected by the Ringzug service and are stops on the Black Forest Railway. The eastern side of the Black Forest is a little more complicated to access by train. Pforzheim train station is another major rail link on the northern edge of the Forest, with links into Bad Wildbad and Calw. The Schwarzwaldbahn, which traverses the Black Forest, also starts in Karlsruhe on its way to Singen and Konstanz. The train station at Karlsruhe also offers links along the northern edge of the Black Forest with services from places like Strasbourg through to Stuttgart, Ulm and Munich. All of these services stop at Mannheim, Heidelberg, Karlsruhe and Freiburg am Breisgau. Intercity Express trains run from places like Berlin, Cologne and Frankfurt on their way down to Basel in Switzerland. Train routes to the Black ForestĪn Intercity rail route links towns in central and northern Germany to the western side of the Black Forest. Visitors to the Black Forest have the option of following the Rhine river and crossing into Germany at an appropriate point for the southern edge of the region or heading north towards Blumberg and Donaueschingen for the western edge of the forest. It is the busiest airport in Switzerland, offering a wide range of services including some to destination in North America, and is located to the north of the city. Zurich Airport is the largest airport option for the southern Black Forest area. The closest town on the edge of the Black Forest would be Offenburg, which is located just under 40 kilometres from the airport, and offers good access into the Kinzig valley and tourist destinations such as Gengenbach and Haslach. It is located just off the A8 motorway between Karlsruhe and Ulm and is just under 50 kilometres from the northeastern edge of the Black Forest.Īlthough it serves a major French city, Strasbourg Airport has a relatively limited selection of business flights and is located to the west of the city, which is not ideal for travellers aiming to get to the Black Forest. It offers an extensive programme of European business services and destinations served by low-cost carriers, which inclues both London Heathrow and London Stansted. Stuttgart Airport, the sixth-busiest in Germany, is probably the largest of the airports close to the Black Forest. The airport offers a limited range of destinations, including a programme from Ryanair which includes London Stansted. The airport is 12 kilometres west of Baden-Baden and 40 kilometres south of Karlsruhe. Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport is another smaller airport on the western edge of the Black Forest. The airport has a number of business services (for example, from London Heathrow, Amsterdam and Frankfurt) and also serves as a European air hub for Easyjet. The easiest access into the Black Forest from the airport is via Lörrach in Germany. It is three kilometres northwest of Basel, 20 kilometres away from Mulhouse and just under 50 kilometres from the German city of Freiburg am Breisgau. There are three airports located right on the edge of the Black Forest region and two larger options located within easy reach.ĮuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg (perhaps better known as Basel Airport!) is located just about on the southwestern corner of the Black Forest in France but close to the three-way border between France, Switzerland and Germany. The Black Forest definitely does not suffer from a lack of options for visitors needing to fly to an airport close at hand. Map of the Black Forest Where are the nearest airports? To the north the Black Forest pushes up towards Karlsruhe and Pforzheim, while to the east the towns of Donaueschingen and Villingen-Schwenningen are just outside the main region. What most Germans would understand to be the Black Forest is the part of Baden-Württemberg in southwestern Germany that is bounded by the Rhine river to the south and west and has the cities and towns of Freiburg, Offenburg and Baden-Baden on the western border. The Black Forest is a region of wooded mountains and valleys near the Swiss and French borders in southern Germany.Įxactly where it is depends on what you might be talking about when you refer to the Black Forest (the national park, the nature reserves and hiking trails or the general Black Forest area). How to get to the Black Forest Where is the Black Forest? You do not want the Survivors to hammer out 2 or 3 generators before you end your first chase of the game. *These perks are considered the best for Blight out of the 4 presented. I'm All Ears can only be triggered once every 40 seconds. When another Perk's Hex Totem is cleansed or blessed, its Hex is transferred to the Hex: Undying Totem, including any accumulated Tokens, disabling Hex: Undying instead.Īny Survivor performing a rushed action within 48 meters of your location has their Aura revealed to you for 6 seconds. The Auras of Survivors within 4 meters of any Dull Totem are revealed to you. Grants Undetectable Status Effect for the next 16 seconds, hiding your Red Stain and Terror Radius. Triggers a Notification for that Generator, revealing its location. Whenever a Generator is repaired to 70 %, you benefit from the following effects: The best information gathering perks for any DBD Blight build are: Barbecue & Chilli *Īfter hooking a Survivor, all other Survivors' Auras are revealed to you for 4 seconds when they are farther than 40 meters from the Hook. Just remember! Do not stack too many information perks! Pick 1 or 2 at most! With your Blighted Corruption power and information provided via these perks you should have downs and hooks rolling in, in no time flat. Per usual information is the most valuable thing when playing a “Chaser” type killer. The first group is going to be information gathering perks. Image Credit: Behaviour Step 2: Improve Your DBD Blight Build With Best Perks And Add-Ons Aviable! Even if your DBD Blight Build is the finest it can be. But except to perform horribly while learning this Killer. You need to know all the tiles, maps, and how to deal with each little obstacle. This is what makes The Blight so damn difficult. So you could wrap the attack behind the barrel or the wall. This means that for seconds before the attack your turn radius goes back to normal. If you hold attack at the end of Lethal Rush your “rush combo” ends. But behind that barrel or the wall? Well, it is possible. If he tried going back through the window you would be able to hit him easily. The Survivor you were chasing is now either behind the wall on the right or crouching behind the barrel that is on fire. If you do not run completely flat against it, you will “slide” alongside it and end up in a position that ruins your attack.īut even if you succeed in slamming against it. But the model of the barrel is not a flat surface, it is round. The best place to slam against in the picture is the lonely green barrel in the top left. You can either run after them like any normal Killer. If the Survivors hops through it, and you know they will. There is a window to the right of the green and red barrels. Let's imagine you start at the bottom of this loop. At first, like with any chase in the game, they will drag you to one of the many obstacle tiles of the map, just like the one down below. Survivors know what this character is capable of, so they will take countermeasures at every step. So, what makes The Blight so gosh darn hard to learn? To answer this question let us look at a common situation you will run into as Blight. Survivor Running Speedīlight movement speed compared to any Survivor running speed Because when you know which objects you can “slide” along, then you can use them to steer yourself better. Mastering this very gimmicky aspect of his power can bear fruit to some advanced movement strategies. You need to run almost straight into something, otherwise, you will slide alongside it. The Blight can only Slam into objects when the angle of slamming into an object is greater than 45 ? (degrees). A very important thing to note is that The Blight turns extremely slowly in the middle of a Rush. Only after running into an obstacle and initiating another Rush, called Lethal Rush, is he able to Rush and attack. During the first Rush, The Blight cannot attack. It is easily one of the most complicated powers in the game when you break it all down. The Rush aspect of Blighted Corruption has so many moving parts. Then you can turn in any direction, and use the power again to consume a token and continue your rush. Upon running into a wall, obstacle, tree, or what have you, you stop in place. You can extend his “Rush” by slamming into obstacles. His power allows you to rush forward at breakneck speed for a short distance. At the core of the Blight's strength is his ability, Blighted Corruption. The first step naturally is to understand the Killer before you even attempt to play him/her.
